FileConvert V3.00 by Michael Lantz
Copyright 1991-94, Exodus Software
WHAT IS IT?
FileConvert is a useful utility for all Amiga modem users. It
will take a file in most known compression formats and convert it
into the the faster and better compressing LhA format. All of the
supported formats will be listed in the next section.
SUPPORTED FORMATS
At this time FileConvert will convert seven file formats into
the LHA format. These include:
ARC, ARJ, LZH, PAK, RUN, ZIP and ZOO.
If you would like to see any other file formats included with
the program please send me mail (my various addresses are listed
later in the documentation). I will address all comments and sug-
gestions as quickly as they are received.
WHAT DO I NEED?
Any Amiga with any OS should be able to run this program just
fine. The files used by the program are as follows:
LhA - This file is, of course, mandatory to run the program.
UnArc - Used for decompression of the ARC compression format.
UnArj - Used for decompression of the ARJ compression format.
UnZip - Used for decompression of the ZIP compression format.
Zoo - Used for decompression of the ZOO compression format.
If you would like me to support other archivers/dearchivers
send me mail.
USAGE
FilCon [-<options>] <filename> [destdir]
Options are as follows:
c - Show the LhA compression of the filee. If not selected all
operations within LhA will not be displayed.
d - Delete the file in <filename> (the old archive) after it has
been converted.
e - Leaves the extracted files in the temporary directory created
by FileConvert (which is set to 'RAM:fctemp'). This is useful
if this is the first time you have extracted the files and you
want to use them right away.
s - Show the decompression of the archive. If not selected all of
the operations within the decompressing utility (UnZip, etc..)
will not be displayed.
[DestDir] is the destination directory of the newly compressed
archive. It's default is 'RAM:'.
Examples:
FilCon -de oldfile.zip DH0:Downloads
This will decompress the file, put the new file (oldfile.lha) into
DH0:Downloads, delete 'oldfile.zip', and leave the files extracted
in 'RAM:fctemp'.
FilCon -s cheapfile.zoo
This will decompress the file and show the decompression, and put
the new file (cheapfile.lha) in 'RAM:'.
By typing 'FilCon' at the command line you will get briefed on
the above explanation.
The best place to put 'FilCon' is in your C: directory.
REGISTRATION
This program is released under the concept of ShareWare. For
it's use there is a registration fee. This fee is $10 in US Funds
only. The program does have limitations if not registered, which
will be described in the next section.
LIMITATIONS IF NOT REGISTERED
There are a few limitations if the program is not registered.
These limitations are very noticeable however. They include:
- No use of any of the options.
- The name of the file (FilCon) cannot be renamed or shorted and
must be typed in exactly ('filcon' or 'Filcon' will not work).
- Lastly, there is a three second delay at the beginning of the
program.
ADDITIONS IF REGISTERED
As well as removal of all limitations, there are a few extras
given to registered users. These include:
- [Destdir] customized to whatever directory you want.
- Also, a path can be specified where to look for your archives.
- You also get update notices of program updates (through Internet
or Snail mail).
- You get notices of new releases from Exodus Software.
